1 Jul 2012 - Neptune Wave Power Receives OWET Grant
Neptune Wave Power was selected to receive a grant from the OWET Commercialization Program for 2012-2013. OWET will provide support funding to Neptune Wave Power for the fabrication, deployment and monitoring of its Wave Energy Conversion buoy off the coast of Newport, Oregon at the NNMREC ocean test facility as soon as it is ready.
NNMREC is currently securing the necessary environmental clearances and permits for the Newport Open Ocean Test Site. This includes the US Department of Energy (USDOE) NEPA analysis that is required for them to release federal funds for the site. A permit is also required from the US Corps of Engineers for the deployment of anchors and related equipment and a lease from the Oregon Department of State Lands for use of the site. These have been submitted as a Joint Permit Application (JPA) with the help of Pacific Energy Ventures. Both the NEPA analysis and the JPA required review and concurrence from state and federal agencies. While many agencies are involved, the primary coordination is with NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.
