26 Aug 2012 AW-Energy Oy completed installation of a WaveRoller demonstration power plant
AW-Energy Oy has recently finalized the installation of a WaveRoller demonstration power plant in Portugal. This grid-connected plant is a wave farm consisting of three WaveRoller units. As of today, AW-Energy Oy is the only company in the world that has successfully delivered and installed a wave farm that is operating in the open sea environment, is grid-connected and consists of multiple independent wave energy converters.
The array of three WaveRoller units has been successfully deployed on 11th of August near Peniche in Portugal. The units were towed to the site in perfect weather conditions and attached to the mooring system already set up in advance.
AW-Energy Oy is a Finnish company developing renewable energy technology called the WaveRoller, which generates electricity from ocean waves. The WaveRoller devices are installed fully submerged, on the seabed and at the depths of approximately 8-20 meters. The devices utilize the kinetic energy of the back-and-forth movement of water, which is present along all the coastlines in the near-shore areas.
